Did you ever wonder what it’s like to stand on top of the highest tower in the world? And did you know that you can? That’s if you are in Dubai, where the Burj Khalifa – the tallest manmade structure in the world – is located. If you’re planning to visit Burj Khalifa, you can’t just waltz in at the front door. Well, technically you can, but if you want to get to the view deck, there are protocols to be followed. Here are our tips to get the most out of your Burj Khalifa trip.
The Dubai Mall
From the outside, it looks like The Dubai Mall is very far from Burj Khalifa, but it’s where you’ll go in order to enter the tower. Unless you can afford to stay at the Armani Hotel, you would need to go to the At The Top observation decks located on the 148th, 125th, or 124th floors of the Burj Khalifa. Allot 30-45 minutes for queueing and you can find the entrance at the Lower Ground. As The Dubai Mall is the largest mall in the world by total area, you might want to reserve a bit of time to also see what it offers.
There’s an entrance fee of AED 210.00 for prime hours. For the 148th, the fee goes up to AED 525.00. As you will only be allowed to stay for up to 30 minutes on the 148th floor, then continue on to the lower levels, it is more practical to book the lower level. To avoid any unnecessary delays, book in advance online.
Get the Best of Both Worlds
Book an hour or so before sunset and you’ll get to see the Dubai skyline during daylight and at nighttime. Just be prepared to mill a bit and make sure to get the best vantage point as people tend to sit down in front of the windows where the best views are. Sunsets vary depending on time of year so check online what time the sun sets on the day of your visit. The Dubai Fountain also starts its dancing lights show every 6PM and you can view it from the observation deck.
You can get the best vantage point to see the Dubai Fountain Show from within The Dubai Mall. If you go inside the Apple Store, their windows will give you a free ringside view of the fountain. Get a reasonably priced dinner at the terrace inside Joe’s Café and you can enjoy the spectacular sights and sounds without being jostled by the crowd. If you’re lucky, Burj Khalifa has laser shows and fireworks during special occasions. The view is glorious and it will be a fitting cap to the day.
