Philippine Job Agencies – Who to Trust

Trust

Filipinos applying for a job abroad would be confused which job agencies to trust. It’s justifiable given all the horror stories we have heard growing up. All those lost dreams of Nenay because she was duped of PhP 50,000.00, or Lolo Bhoy’s carabao who died in vain for Bheng’s dreams of becoming a nurse in Saudi.

1. Where to start

It’s quite simple, really. If you go through legal channels, that would be half the battle. Most Filipinos are tempted to go “under the table” and this maybe because of several different factors. Remember that you would be taking a big risk. Everything that you have done, all the effort and the money could go down the drain should you choose to do it any other way than legally.

2. How to look for a trusted job agency

There are many ways of looking for a job agency. You can choose to do it the old-fashioned way, which is through a Sunday newspaper’s Classified Jobs listing, or online.

Not everything that is listed in a major newspaper is legit. This is doubly true for online ads. Zero in on a job you like. Check the official name of the manning agency against POEA’s accredited list of companies and the status of their licenses.

Valid License should be the agency status and there should be a license validity listed. You can also make sure that the job listing that they have advertised for is on the active job order directory on POEA.

Looking at this directory is another way for a would-be OFW to look for a job (and an agency). Search for a job order in the position you are qualified for. You can sort by date, country, or agency. You can just search for the dates listed since they would be the most recent ones. The agencies’ names will be listed in all their glory.

4. The next step

Once you have sent in your applications, don’t forget to ask what the next step would be. Ask if they would be contacting you, or how soon you can contact them. It doesn’t hurt to ask. Don’t forget to jot down the contact information and pray for the best!
