Get Rid of Mental Block and Other Hindrances to Success

By 21st December 2017Life abroad

As a writer, I am very familiar with writer’s block. A kind of mental block, this impedes me from accomplishing what I should do and finishing on time. Sometimes, though, all the hindrances boil down to things I have control over. As a person, the easiest item to change is the stuff I can control.

Hindrances to Success

There are a lot of factors that can contribute to our success, and foremost of that is our attitude. We can blame a lot of factors for our failures, but it’s useless to rail against something that we cannot change. Remember that in a race, the runners are given the same set of circumstances: the same starting point, the same length of track, and the same time. What the runners differ about is their dedication to practice, their support teams, and their determination to win.

Focus on the finish line.

Focus on the End Goal

Crossing the finish line first is not the only determinant of success that we can have in our life. We get to define what our everyday wins are, although we do have to decide what constitutes a win in the first place. Some would say that the journey is as important as the destination, but let’s pretend that we’re A-type people and that we are all about the endgame. What do you want out of life? Do you want to go abroad in order to support your family? Identify your end goal and have a game plan.

Time-driven

Another hindrance to success is failing to tie up your dreams to a deadline. It’s easy to say that, someday, you want to travel the world. Someday, you want to work abroad so that you can build your dream house. Ten years on and you’re not any closer to your dream because you got so busy living your life. Set a timeline so that you’ll also have a halfway mark where you can verify if you are any nearer to success.

Procrastination

Procrastination is the path of least resistance. You can give the excuse that you get more motivated the nearer the deadline, but it really is just that – an excuse. Do the easiest tasks first, if it helps. Break down the complicated undertakings into smaller, easy-to-do chores. You’ll find that you’ll have crossed the finish line without realizing it.

Acceptance

It’s easy to get frustrated and give up when the going gets tough. It’s okay, you might have failed that Prometric exam that will get you abroad. It does not mean that everything has ended though. There are still a lot of options open for you. Accept that mishaps happen but that’s part of life. This is where you need to say that it’s important to enjoy every step of your journey, as the destination is just a moment.

There’s more than one way to the top.

Roads and Options

Just because a path is blocked does not mean that there are no other roads towards your success. Your options are as varied as your imagination. And in the end, you get to say you succeeded.
