Kaneez Nabijee, Managing Partner at Doctor Expat, gives us her expert advice for medical professionals who are seeking new opportunities in the United Arab Emirates.
Doctor Expat enables healthcare talent around the world to secure their medical license and assists during and after the licensing process to help such professionals secure employment in the UAE.
Choose where in the UAE you’d like to work
“Knowing exactly where you want to work saves a huge amount of time, so that we can focus on the requirements for that specific regulator and can guide you through the process more efficiently,” says Kaneez.
Regulators in the UAE have different requirements for healthcare professionals who are applying for a licence. By pinpointing exactly where you’d like to work, you can simply focus on adhering to the requirements of that specific regulator in order to speed up the process of applying for your medical license.
Ask the experts
If you’ve been struggling throughout this licensing process, some expert input may be all you need to get your license over the line. Kaneez tells us, “Without the expertise of a dedicated licensing agency, many doctors struggle to navigate their way through the licensing process. We regularly receive emails from doctors who have been trying – without luck – to get their UAE medical licence for over a year.
The problem is usually due to specific nuances that are accepted in other countries but are not commonplace here. For example, in India, many doctors have the title ‘Professor’ which, here in the UAE, is considered to be a non-clinical role and so, a license application would be rejected on that basis.”
Verify your documents
Verified professional documents are a requirement for all healthcare authorities in the UAE in order to obtain a medical license. Kaneez advises, “Once you know exactly what you need to verify for your chosen authority, we advise our candidates to start the verification process straight away. Doing this ahead of time can cut out six to eight weeks in the hiring process and makes you much more ‘hireable’ from an employer’s perspective.”

Prep your CV
Once you’ve got your license, it doesn’t stop there.
“A lot of candidates that we speak to think that there will be an influx of job offers as soon as they have their medical license,” says Kaneez. “This isn’t the case and as the UAE is a hotspot for international talent, we encourage the professionals that we work with to build a strong CV which showcases their experience and qualifications. The market is definitely on the up in recent years and we have seen a sharp rise in the number of vacancies over the last two years due to new facilities being built within the region.”
TrueProfile.io enables healthcare professionals within the region to build and share their verified digital CV- including their authenticated documents – with employers, regulators and authorities free of charge. In addition, we work with leading employers to source and contact verified candidates around the world. To find out more, visit our blog on how to build a digital resumé.
