INTERVIEW with Medalist Fencer Lim Cheryl: “TrueProfile.io is really user-friendly”

Who is Cheryl Lim? Cheryl Lim: I’m 24 this year! I am currently a Singapore National Women’s Epeeist (Fencer) as well as a Coach and Manager at SG Academy of Fencing. TrueProfile.io: How would you distinguish between the athlete Cheryl Lim and the person? Cheryl Lim: We are pretty much the same person, just that when I put on my fencing mask I tend to adapt a different personality. Usually more fierce & competitive! TrueProfile.io: Please tell us about your company, SG Academy of Fencing, and what’s it about. Cheryl Lim: SG Academy of Fencing is a pretty new fencing club, we only  started operations in October 2016. We believe that the values imparted and learnt through Fencing applies to life outside sports. We also want to provide them with the training and environment needed to meet their personal goals, be it locally or internationally. We hope to promote Fencing as a sport to a wider audience in Singapore. As the saying goes, “Good things must be shared!” TrueProfile.io: You have competed at an international level and won medals. How has this exposure help you with your company? Cheryl Lim: Competing and training at the international level has allowed us to accumulate experience, learn, and keep up with the the latest on-goings in the international fencing scene. These are experiences and knowledge that we impart to our students through our trainings and classes. It definitely helped with our training and class structure as we always aim to keep training effective and up to date. TrueProfile.io: How do you feel about transitioning from being a top-level athlete to being a club coach/ manager? Cheryl Lim: I feel that there isn’t much of a transition. I’m still doing what I love, which mainly revolves around fencing. During the application of the work pass we came across TrueProfile.io. The website was user friendly and simple to utilise in our quest to verify our in-coming Coach’s educational certificates! TrueProfile.io: How do you think TrueProfile.io will contribute to your company’s success? Cheryl Lim: The TrueProfile.io team was super efficient and helpful in our application for verification. They helped to expedite our application even though the standard processing time was 35 days. This was crucial as we were hoping to be able to get our coach on-board as soon as possible for our fencers! TrueProfile.io: Do you think that document verification is something that companies should do as a rule? Cheryl Lim: It would be good for potential employees to have their documents verified. In this day and age we can’t be too sure, what with technology being used to modify and falsify documents.  It would be a plus point to see that their documents are verified in order to ensure that the employee who will be welcomed on board is true to their qualifications and level.
